I'm curious to see what other players think about this, but I have been asked by several other R5's in the game, particularly ones that are tired of getting hit day in and day out... The common complaint is "We can't build up because we keep getting hit every day"... There are of course a multitude of reasons that this may is likely happening, but it boils down to overlooking basic defense strategies...
When I say "basic defense strategies", I'm not talking about having the right kind of trap configurations or figuring out how to set up "meat shields", I'm talking about the very basic. In other words, how easy are you making it for people to track you down and attack you? We've all seen National Geographic and the Discovery Channel... The Gazelle's don't exactly make it difficult for the lions to find them as they're in massive herds at the watering hole. It doesn't take long for a pride of lion's to figure out where the gazelle's hang out. If the lions show up, WHEN the lions show up, some gazelles are getting eaten.
Don't be a bunch of dumb gazelle's.

It amazes me to see people 60 days in the game in small alliances, half of them with their shields up constantly, and the other half on fire 24/7 not having figured this out, though I think part of it may be because they see the much bigger and powerful alliances in a hive formation. First off, you can be guaranteed that these types of alliances only have a portion of their bases in a hive, that most of those bases in the hive are traps/lures, or that they're big enough that nobody is going to mess with them anyway (or a combination of the above). Back to the Discovery Channel example... Elephants hang out at those same watering holes with the gazelles, and if they tried, a pride of lions could take down an elephant, but:
A.) Why would they want to when there's plenty of dumb gazelles around whom they stand a much lesser chance of getting injured in attacking.
B.) It takes a lot less energy to take down a gazelle, or even 10 gazelles.
So, in short...
Don't be a gazelle.
Don't make things easier on your opponents than need be.
